23. 5 Things You Should Do Before You Graduate (Vol2.No22.111125)

Posted on November 10th, 2011 by admin

by Dream Internship

As a college student, your life is filled with “to do” lists. Whether it be homework assignments, studying (and cramming) for tests, re-writing that 3rd draft of a paper to get it right where you want it, or trying to get face time with that elusive student advisor, your life is moving at a whirlwind pace. And while all these things are important, there are a few key elements to your university career that you should ensure is completed prior to matriculation.

First, is the tangible representation of all that is you, your resume. Do take advantage of writing centers, career centers, computer labs, and design software while it is readily available to you. These tools will not always be there for you to use, so make sure you are getting your moneys worth from your tuition dollars. Also note, that in this digital age, resumes are continuously getting more high-tech, so a hard-copy resume may not cut it anymore. Having an online resume, video resume or a blog that compiles your many skills as a professional will not only give you an advantage over your competition, but will display you are keeping up with the times and are familiar with modern marketing tools. 22. Making The Most Of Your Life (Vol2.No22.111025)

Posted on November 10th, 2011 by admin

By Dream Internship

When you think of “College” you may find yourself painting an image in your head of wild parties, forgetting your small but not so insignificant scantron for a major test, or simply having the best time of your life. As college should be, “the best time of your life,” it is also the most important time of your life. It is the time that you must make a decision of where you want to go and who you want to be in 5 to 10 years. As I was reading the blogs on yahoo.com, some interesting facts came up about the reflection of college majors’ unemployment rates and the top 10 majors with the highest earnings. While reading these blogs, I couldn’t help myself but have the need to share this useful information to those that may or even may not be in the decision period of their life.

With a 10 percent unemployment rate, the top 6 selected are majors such as Actuarial Science, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Educational administration and supervision, geological and geophysical engineering, pharmacology, and school student counselling.

Majors with the highest earnings are dominated by Engineering, Read the rest of this entry »

Using Persuasion To Get What You Want

Posted on October 10th, 2011 by admin

By Dream Internship

persuasion-content-marketing
At one point or another in our lives, we come across a situation where we know what we want, its staring us in the face, we just do not know how to make it happen. Whether it be a promotion from a boss, to convince a friend to help you move, to get your mate to take you to a nice dinner, or even to persuade your roommate that they should take the trash out, even if it is not their turn, we all have been there. If only there was a simple way to make all of these situations result in your favor, life would be that much easier. Well actually, there is. The history of persuasion and rhetoric runs long and deep. We have encountered inspiration from the great minds of Aristotle, Abraham Lincoln and even Homer Simpson. This history of rhetoric, created by the Greeks, has developed into more of an art. It has assisted those who employ its techniques into accomplishing varying degrees of tasks for more than a thousand years. Hopefully, the following examples will help you in persuading your way to what you want.

20. Make Yourself Look Good with Social Networking (Vol2.No20.110825)

Posted on October 10th, 2011 by admin

By Dream Internship

In this age today, you can’t even think about surviving in the business world today without being a Facebook, Twitter, or Linkedin geek. The fact of the matter is, knowing how to properly use these outlets will enable you to present yourself professionally, with a big sign over your head saying “I am the one you want!!!!” (in a non-obnoxious manner), which is exactly what you are aiming for. In all honesty, I didn’t want to be a part of Twitter and saw no point in “tweeting” but as time went on, so did everyone else!! I then began to Tweet and engage myself more on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and other social networking sites and sure enough, I was back in the race! To all my friends out there who aren’t social networking fans,  here are just a couple tips that I developed after reading the book Likeable social media by Dave Kerpen that might just change your mind.

Tip 1: Facebook/Online Profiles Read the rest of this entry »

17. Have an awesome day – win a free gift of your choice (Vol2.No17.110525)

Posted on December 1st, 2010 by admin

By Dream Internship

I woke up today and felt really super happy. I wake up happy most days, generally because I go to bed happy, because I have a job that I love, intelligent and fun friends who share quality time with me, because I have a loving family that I care about and who cares about me, I’m healthy, my plants are still alive, my dog does cool tricks, Sydney and Australia is an amazing place to live and rarararararara, the list goes on. I can write for hours, and talk even more and for those that have met me, well, you are nodding as you read right now.

So, getting to the point, I am in a fantastic mood. And today, I wish for my interns to be in the same mood. So I thought, what can I do make sure my interns are just as happy as I am?

My plan was to offer a trip to climb Kilimanjaro with me, or a ticket to go anywhere you want in the world. Perhaps skydiving for you and two friends?

Posted on December 1st, 2010 by admin

Good morning,

I have discovered a great explanation for something that I do a lot, but didn’t have a very good term for.

Maybe you have a major problem with writing an assignment or putting together you resume.

Maybe you can’t get your housemate to pay their bills.

Maybe you are having trouble thinking of a new gift for your friend.

Whatever problem you may have, there are always a million, because that’s part of the beauty with living your life and mapping it out with great solutions.

There are no rules, and there is no manual.

13. Play the opposite game and win! Ultimate Cover letter (Vol2.No13.110225)

Posted on December 1st, 2010 by admin

Wow, last week’s email really struck a chord with people. Luckily I got less hate mail than I got fan mail on that one, but I promised that we’d be back on track this week, so moving on…

We are taught funny traditions in business and coaching sometimes (some of which I incorporate into our internships), and a big one is:

“Find a mentor that is already successful doing what you want to do and copy them.”

I mean, this statement is in almost every single success book out there, so it has to be true right?

Well, maybe not always…

We are turning into blobs with our virtual worlds where we sit at computers all day and then sit in front of the TV all night…

If this doesn’t apply to you, then I applaud you and my deepest apologies.

…but something happened to me yesterday that really bothered me.

Posted on December 1st, 2010 by admin

I have a really short story for you today.

It’s completely true, but you probably won’t believe it…

I actually own a book called “How to Stop Procrastinating.” I have no idea who the author is, and in fact I couldn’t tell you much about it at all.

I have tried to read that thing 4 times in the past 6 years, but I keep putting it down and leaving it for later.

I am the queen of procrastinating things I don’t want to do and I’m sure you might be too.

1. 10 Small Employability Predictions for 2010 (Vol1.No1.100125)

Posted on December 1st, 2010 by admin

The last single digit year in the 21 century has passed and I’d like to dust off the officially licensed Dream Internship crystal ball and introduce my predictions for the upcoming year in education, Internships and a work life.

It’s probably been a rocky year for you (I know it has been for me), but I believe there’s some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

…let’s take a peek

Sophia Demetriades 10 Small Employability Predictions for 2010 (my observations only- not a drop of research was done for this post and no small animals were harmed):

1. If you managed to slog through 2008 or 2009, even if you studied, worked part time or travelled, then you are going to kick ass in 2010. That was the worst of the worst. This will also be the year of finding out what you are truly passionate about. I am passionate about students working through dream internships to find out what they are passionate about, and then achieve success!

2. It’s not over yet. It’s got to be lean and mean from here on out or you won’t make it.
Be financially aware, think, make sound decisions, and work for yourself. I’m here to guide you. Call me today on +61 414 978 683 to find out how!

3. If you’re not comfortable with whom you are and don’t believe in yourself, work on it, now. I believe in you. Now contact me for a dream internship to get your priorities in order. Read the rest of this entry »

5. Healthy food for Brighter Students (Vol1.No5.100525)

Posted on November 2nd, 2010 by admin

Food plays a huge part in our life. B.S. Anthelme once said, “tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are” (1825, Physiology of Taste).
Students have little time for cooking and operate on a low budget. Unconsciously, cheap and easy food becomes a habit that turns into an unhealthy lifestyle. Younger audiences tend to fall into a fast-food trap. In addition, they may believe in the myth that healthy food is overpriced. This article contains five dining places where eating healthy is both convenient and cost effective.

1. D.A.R.E, Shop 22 / The Rocks centre playfair street, The Rocks

The name stands for delicious and responsible eating and it explains all about tasty healthy food. Dare is probably the only place in Sydney that serves fresh-grilled kebab in selection of whole-meal or gluten-free bread. The store offers fantastic range of homemade gluten-free pastries and chemical free salads. Try the gluten-free coconut pancakes served with low-fat yoghurt and blueberry for breakfast to start your healthy day. The prices are average just like any other cafes, just a lot more healthy.
