Good morning,
I might make you mad today, but I just can’t hold back on this one.
Please hold off on the unsubscribe button until next time. I promise we will be back to our regularly scheduled program.
Today’s tip sheet has got absolutely nothing to do with internships, study or job search, yet it has everything to do with success in life.
It’s about your personal health.
We are turning into blobs with our virtual worlds where we sit at computers all day and then sit in front of the TV all night…
If this doesn’t apply to you, then I applaud you and my deepest apologies.
…but something happened to me yesterday that really bothered me.
I was skyping and chatting with a few students yesterday, academically extremely intelligent, (and ready to do an internship :). However when I asked about their personal interests, none of them were active activities… they were all indoor, computer related, sit down interests.
If that becomes our only reality we sure aren’t going to last long.
You’ve got to get outside.
You’ve got to do ANYTHING active every day
and You’ve got to make your kids and/or family do the same.
Otherwise, what’s the point of being successful if you aren’t going to be around to enjoy it right?
When employers interview you they won’t only see if you fit the culture of their office, but they will think about whether you are a healthy and happy person. It doesn’t matter if you all support the same footy team (go the Rabbitoh’s) however employers will make a note of what you do in your personal life and how you plan to enjoy it.
It’s called our future and something’s got be to done about it or we are all in trouble.
So if you’ve got a little extra that you might want to get rid of, here is my top secret 100% non-scientific diet plan that works very well.
1. Do something active every day for at least 20 min, but preferably 40 (that’s when you start burning fat instead of calories). Walking counts, commend yourself, be active and walk to where you want to go.
2. Each portion of your food should be the size of your fist.
3. Don’t drink your calories (get rid of sugary drinks including fruit juice).
4. Stop thinking that eating junk food and lollies is a prize, something you have deserved, a reward – you’re punishing your body and your brain. Max once a week.
That’s it. You can pretty much eat whatever you want, just follow the rules.
Again, I am not here to give medical advice, check with your doctor, blah blah blah.
…but it works. And please, don’t diet and starve yourself. Read up about healthy eating and living either online or in bookstores – you can never learn too much!
Ok, I’m sure you didn’t want to hear this today, but I thank you for listening. I care about your health.
I will be back with more advice and positive words next week!
Let’s go for a walk,
Sophia Demetriades
